Domestic Fantasies

A selection of different Art mediums

(2019)
Domestic fantasies is a long term art and research project on the aesthetics and histories of family and domesticity in 1980s Egypt. The project started by tracing and collecting archival fragments of  objects, photos, magazines, household materials complemented with several interviews using the oral history methods to reconstruct the life-worlds and afterlives of the middle class in Egypt.

I work through art as a medium to critically question the women's assigned gender roles and representations in the everyday and to open new imaginaries on the middle class aesthetics. The project’s output presents a variety of art mediums, questions and themes through each stage.

During this stage of the project, I developed a series of  artworks during the Roznama 7 Studio program,

Artistically, my aim is to embody different meanings and possibilities of the verbs we usually use within the artistic process and techniques such as: to construct, to demolish and to stage.

This stage of the  project was developed as part of Roznama 7 - Studio Program (2019), organized by Medrar for Contemporary Art, and with the support of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) and Al Ismailia for Real Estate Investment.
